Young Movement
This short documentary, Young Movement, is the product of an apprenticeship in documentary arts led by REUNION artists working with inner city youth through the non-profit organization, Citizen Schools. This apprenticeship’s goal was to empower the students to work at community development through the medium of documentary arts. There are broken aspects in all of our communities. When we asked the students what was broken or wrong in their community, each student had stories of violence to share. With the students’ topic, we set out to make a short documentary to unite members of their community against violence. This film is intended for the communities our students call home. It is their work of community development. Over the course of 10 weeks our students did creative writing, creative planning, filming, and interviewing for this film. We are honored to have worked with their energy and creativity. We are so proud of the effort, thought, and passion they put into this work. This film is their voice. It is their message of hope to their community. This film was screened at the Roxbury Film Festival in early August and also won a first place in a national Citizen Schools contest.
